Rice Factory New TarmacThis is the new drying floor of the Coop Rice Mill as photographed from Factory Road looking towards the Levans residence. As the rice mill does not have a dryer the drying floor (commonly referred to as the ‘tarmac’) is used to dry paddy before milling. On weekends, once not being used for its original purpose, it is converted to a cricket field where boys and men gather from far and wide to play softball cricket. The games are usually very intense owing to them carrying heavy bets both from the players on each side and supporters and onlookers. On weekday afternoons short softball games or small goal football is played on the tarmac and basketball is played infrequently though the hoop has been demolished.
