Community playfiedThis is the multi-purpose community playfield commonly referred to as ‘ballfield’. In the photo some boys play a pick up game of seven-a-side small goal football which is not an uncommon activity in the afternoons after school and work. The field is also used for both softball and hardball cricket matches. All three sports have been known to be played simultaneously in the afternoons. As the hard ball players practice on the center pitch, others play softball on the eastern perimeter while the footballers play on the southern or northern perimeter. Football games have been known to be played with as much as 20 persons per side given the large number of village boys and young men who would turn out to ‘run ball’ in order to ‘get a sweat out’. The field is in a much better condition these days than in the early 1990s. The Community High School can be seen in the background.
