An afternoon on the seawall

Vergenoegen seawall 2This is the sea dam which joins with the Dutch built seawall to keep the waters of the Essequibo river from flooding Vergenoegen. This area used to be immensely popular with village people for afternoon walks but with the thick grass and overgrown bush that is much less popular these days. The area is also not in a pleasant state since many cattle owners tie their cattle here to graze all day and the leave it littered with cow dung. In the evenings known drug abusers use the area to satisfy their craze away from the prying eyes of villagers and the law. Despite the ills the area still cuts a picturesque scene under the afternoon sun and is still popular with kite flyers on Easter Mondays.
