Abandoned boats

Discarded boats on seawallAbandoned boats on the Vergenoegen foreshore. These boats were once used by fishermen to catch fish in the Atlantic Ocean and bring their catch to shore. The fishermen would spend up to a week out at sea sometimes, setting their nets and taking up their catch in rough and dangerous seas. The boats are made completely of wood from the Guyana forests and after many trips they lose seaworthiness and have to be abandoned for newer boats. With no official boat graveyard the boats are just left on the foreshore to fall apart and rot. Sometimes scavengers take whatever bits of wood they need.
